Overview of design for Kuepper and Darwin. Darwin's lab is in the foreground. Landform ramp on the LHS connects meeting space to the water, a wharf for both scientists to arrive. The flat horizontal formation of Darwin's space contrasts with the vertical cluster of Kuepper's space.
Kupper's lab design. The concept behind this was the idea of solar technology reaching for the sun, somewhat like a lifting mechanism, in the attempt to maximise absorption of solar energy. The hollowed out prisms are ramps to the roofs, allowing her to plant solar cells for her research.
Darwin's lab. It sits right on the water, allowing Darwin to become close to the surrounding environment and marine life. The idea to its flat formation was to integrate with the flat plane of the ocean and become one with its environment. The horizontal roofs spans across the lab, providing a podium for helicopter transport.
The meeting spaces as the centre of the complex. The powerful lights illustrates the 'aggregation' of minds and the power of teamwork in science. The streaming lights are reflective of the gathering of ideas, coming together to bring enlightenment to mankind.
This image symbolises the scientists adventure into the unknown. For Kuepper, its is the pursuit of cleaner and efficient solar energy while Darwin probes deep into the evolution of organisms.
